Epicureanism

In this virtual Study Group in the Cosmic Thinkery, we will explore the philosophy of Epicurus, which is notorious for its focus on pleasure. We will find that the Epicurean way of life, properly understood, is actually rather austere and simple. It has as much to recommend as its better known competitor, Stoicism. We study short texts (extracts, passages), which we then discuss in a relaxed conversation. You can get a good sense for the Epicurean way of life, and practice critical thinking. I will provide the texts.

5 meetings on Monday, 19.30–21.00 BST (UTC+1) on Zoom.

Dates: 16 May, 23 May, 30 May, 6 June, 13 June.

The cost for all meetings is £90.
